June/July Sketch Challenges

Hi everyone, and welcome to a new Scrapville Sketch Challenge.
This month you will see the introduction of a new series of Sketches by yours truly.
I am happy to say that the girls have made me proud by putting up some wonderful
samples of the first sketches.

Please ensure you stay within the requirements of the Sketch Challenges, and that each challenge is recognizable to the original.

 June/July 2011 Sketch Layout

Beautiful Butterfly by Michelle Rogers (CT)

What a great photo to work these papers with, the red and green has balanced nicely with the pastel pink background.  Michelle has kept her layout very close to the Sketch, and it has a very clean cut appeal.  The crocheted flower and the ruffled paper strips give added dimension.

 A closer look at the ruffled paper strip, which can be effectively used to replace ribbon when you want to co-ordinate your papers and don't have any suitable ribbons at hand.

I Love a Sunburnt Country... by Sally Clark (CT)

Sally has given her Distress Inks a workout with this layout, adding to the theme of the photos.  Hands on distressing, violent scrunching and that lovely elongated font all tie into the theme very nicely.

The use of stitching tends to tie into the theme whilst softening the effect, and the eyelets look great on the tabs and page corners.

An effective medium for distressing Mulberry Paper can be used in so many ways.

A little violent scrunching (had to be there...), some distress ink, a bit of tearing, folding and the eyelets to finishing it off - and so effective.

 You 2 are Special by Sarah Wood (CT)

Sarah has created the tree in much the same technique as Sally's distressing, and it gives the trunk so much more dimension.  To add a bit more personal journaling Sarah has added strips of text using the same paper as the canopy, and adhered this on top.

The butterflies and the clouds add a whimsical effect, and the paper strips have been folded and adhered so that they sit up slightly.

Gone Fishing by Sam Epps (CT)

The colours in Sam's layout tone very nicely with her photo, very masculine and not overbearing.  The white space balances it all out nicely, and the Notebook Punch adds a nice balance to where the upper and lower strips of the sketch are used.

This photo gives you a 3D look at how Sam has created the dimensional stars, very effective.

Michelle has used the Sketch for a boys card, always a challenge.

Hello Sunshine card by Sally Clark (CT)

Knowing how much Sally ....Loves Owls, I love this card even more!  The sun is gorgeous and the papers and clouds just scream whimsical.

Love You card by Sarah Wood (CT)

 The combination of Cosmo and October Afternoon works well with Sarah's card. The colours work well, and the bird on the button looks great.

Plenty of Pumpkin Time to get your sketches in everyone, and such wonderful sample to be inspired by.  You have until July 14th to have them completed.
