MAY NEWSLETTER

Hello Creative People, and Welcome to the Scrapville Newsletter. It's a little daunting at this point to realize that we are almost half way through the year already! Hasn't it just flown by without our noticing?.....
Scrapville has been very busy indeed, the least of all being the excellent layout and card designs being put up by the Creative Team. They are working hard on their beautiful projects to keep you all inspired, and get your motivation moving. I am very grateful for their input.

May has pretty much been "Mother's Month" here at Scrapville. The lead up to Mother's Day with the Special KidsVille class was a lot of fun, and the kids were all great. Some very proud little people left the class that day, excited about sharing their creations with their Mums on Mother's Day.

There are some great in-store specials on until the end of May. If you are looking at updating or adventuring into accessorizing your creative space with some new toys, we have what you need here at Scrapville! Call in and see what's available whilst the prices are down - our new cutting and embossing machines and accessorized tools are always better when you get them for a bargain!

SCRAPVILLE'S BIGGEST MORNING TEA
I find that where ever you look, you will find someone that has been touched in some way by cancer.
It's simply more than that five degrees of separation, it's that thing that sits and niggles away at the who, what, why and when inside us. The pain and suffering so many endure, the loss - albeit physical, emotional or financial, it's burdens are great. The strength to overcome these times, to support, to give hope and have faith often comes from the people working hardest to prevent it from taking any more lives. These are the people that are behind the Cancer Council and their diverse teams raising funds for this great cause, funds that go towards care, prevention, medication and research.

We are onboard.................

Scrapville will be holding a Biggest Morning Tea this Thursday, 27th May between 10.30am and 2.00pm. There will be a $5 donation for admission to the back room, where you will enjoy some yummy cakes and slices with your coffee and tea. Wear something PINK and you will be put in the draw for a spot prize.
All entry fees will be donated to the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser.
20% of all sales on the day will also be donated to the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser.

If you have paid your $5 donation, please feel welcome to come back for a FREE CROP at 7pm. The night is PINK, so wear something PINK, or work on something PINK. If you can only come for the evening CROP, the $5 CROP FEE will also be donated. Please contact Janet if you would like to attend so that numbers can be confirmed.

MONTHLY PACKS
How wonderful was that October Afternoon “Cherry Hill” range? As we sold out of the Monthly Packs (in the first 3 days..) the suppliers have been inundated with re-orders, and so now we are on the back order system. I will let everyone know as soon as they arrive back in stock!

JUNE’s Monthly Pack will once again feature TWO packs. Due out next Tuesday, the first will feature a range by My Little Shoebox, and the sample created by Melinda. This is priced at $15.00, and includes an optional Booster Pack for $10.00.  The Booster is only available with the purchase of the Monthly Pack!

The second will feature a beautiful range by Crate Paper, and the sample will be created by Marg. This is a wonderful and pretty pack, and priced at $20.00.

Those who have subscribed to the Monthly Packs will receive them as a priority; all the other packs will go onto display in the shop. This is a much easier way to ensure that you always receive your Monthly Packs.

Well I hope you are all finding time to scrap and be creative. I’m sure I will have more updates for you all soon, so keep tuned!!

Stay Tuned....here they are!!

The Blind CropVille layouts will be uploaded later this evening...

Get ready to be surprised!

Ok, I'm back! The theme for the Blind CropVille was based on a shabby layout. This turned out to be an interesting challenge for the girls as some had never attempted anything shabby before. I think even they were surprised at how their creations turned out.

I am loving watching the girls at the Blind CropVilles, and I am learning how to put a new spin on long existing techniques as well. And, whilst there was much humour in the application of these newly tried techniques, it may be a good idea if I stick to my own techniques for a while! None-the-less, the night proved a bit distressing on several levels, and all in a good way!

This is the first of the layouts by:
Di

 Jennie

 Allana

 Roz

 Cassie

 Shiralee

Marg (Creative Team)
Marg wasn't in-store to do her challenge but we love her take just the same!

ORIGINAL BLIND SCRAP LAYOUT
And this is the one they were all aiming to look like...
by Scrapville's Creative Team member Melinda.

The girls should all be very pleased with their layouts, I think they all did a wonderful job.  Thanks to Melinda for preparing the layout and instructions.

Some Final Layouts for the Sketch

Everyone deserves to be heard (or seen!), so I am uploading the last few entries for the last Sketch Challenge.  I always like to encourage people to upload their work, even if it's a bit late.  You've taken the time to do it, so why not let us see it?

Firstly we have a Card Sketch from Clare in the UK, and a layout done with the Card Sketch also......... doh!  I guess when you're on a good thing, you just gotta stick with it - right Clare!  Anyway, Clare has used a beautiful photo of her wedding day for the layout, and I just love the simplicity of it.  It really didn't need much more, after all the focus is in the middle!

Not to be outdone in the card department, Clare has worked up another lovely card from the Sketch.  The layering looks effective with the decorative edges.  Really appreciate you making the effort to join us here in Oz Clare, and just loving your work.

We also have a layout from Heather, who has focused her creativity on her canine loving family.  What a fun layout, great photos.

This next one is from Lucy, featuring her lovely granddaughter.

Here we have a layout from Shiralee, featuring her dog busy in the garden!

And this one is from Cassie, featuring Piper in her beanie.

Thanks girls, it is really wonderful to get so many layouts on the blog and in the store.  And of course, to see how different your layouts and cards can be.

Don't miss out, June's Blind CropVille is on following the long weekend, so keep the 19th June free and book in early!

We will upload more soon...................

Now, the sketches are there purely for inspiration, you can flip them, turn them, alter them however you like, use whatever products you like and any techniques you choose, but the original Sketch design must be recognisable.  And, if you use it for anything other than to enter the challenge, please give credit to the designer.
Sketch entries need to be emailed to scrapville@iinet.net.au or dropped in to the Scrapville store in Wodonga before midnight 14th June.  Good luck, and we look forward to seeing your wonderful creations.

Sneak Peek...

Our April/May Sketch challenge is just about to close so if you have any last minute entries you'd better get your skates on because we need to have them in by midnight 14th May. There has been a wonderful response to the challenge so far so I'm glad the winner is chosen by the random generator and not a judging panel because I'd hate to have to choose as everyone's work has been fabulous.
I have included a little sneak peek of my layout for the May/June sketch challenge which will be posted on Saturday, 15th.
Happy Scrapping!

Some more Sketch Layouts

Well, these girls are on the ball.  Having spent a weekend away recently Kat and The Girls all met the challenge and completed a layout for the April Sketch Challenge.  I am loving what these girls have done, and seeing lots of use with the Cricut too.

Love Layout by Benita
This is just beautiful Benita, the background paper has made it easy to simplify the look with a few matching cutouts and co-ordinating colours.  The bling on the flowers looks great, and that photo - just beautiful!

Leo - Scrappy Cat by Nita
Your take on the circle works really well Nita, not only with the flower but the patterned paper too.  The layered cutouts have added some nice depth, and I love those leaves.  That Scrappy Cat just keeps bringing back memories of all my furry little friends!

Me Layout by Sue
Gotta love that flourish on the top of the circle Sue - really like the duplicated effect and the wide black border at the bottom.

Yo Dude! Layout by Justine
There's sugarcoated cardstock on this layout, and it looks great!!  A nice mix of colours and patterned papers tie it in nicely, and the braiding is a nice soft touch.  And yes, and I totally dig the Dude's Shades!!

Adore Layout by Kat
I love how everyone uses the scripted and word papers.  The piece at the top with the flower is just lovely, that "Adore" is in itself adorable.  The layering of the flowers is very soft and pretty for a baby girl page.

Thanks for sharing girls, it's so nice to see how many different takes we can get from the sketches.

The Daily Drive

Well, as a rural commuter I thought I might share a little snap with you from time to time, just so you all know that I actually do find my way out of those BIG brown boxes and make it home occasionally!  I took this on the way in to work this morning, and am happy to say that the fog only lasted about 10 minutes, before clearing to a beautiful blue sky.

At least the sun was shining......................

What the girls did...

...... with the April Monthly Pack!
I was very keen to see what the girls had been doing with the April pack, so I asked a couple of them if they would bring in their layouts in for me.  I am always interested in seeing what everyone comes up with using the same pack, and I am always pleasantly surprised.  Roz has been included in an earlier upload, and you may like to note the lovely use of her pink tissue flowers when you sneak back to have a look.

Friends for Life by Anthea.
I am liking the tissue flower and the ruffle Anthea.  Good to see you being challenged to create some interesting embellishments.  It all comes together just nicely.  And good job with cutting out the title from the patterned paper!

..................... and the Sketch Challenge.............

This layout of Piper is by Cassie.
Such a beautiful photo, the whole layout just draws you to those big brown eyes, and those chubby cheeks!!!  Gorgeous Cass.

This layout of Indi on the slide is by Jacqui.
Great use of colours and storybook icons on Jacqui's layout, layered up with flowers and buttons.  The butterflies look great too, inked up and given depth with dimentional magic.  They are so nice IRL!

...and another lovely card, this time by Cass for her Mum.

Some really nice work girls, lots of layering and a bit of open space.  Thanks for bringing your projects in to share.

KidsVille Mother's Day Class

Well, I finally managed to find that photo........... since the secret's out of the bag and the Kids have given Mum their precious cards and little decorated boxes! The kids all had lots of fun, and were very proud of their gifts.  Below is their photo with their masterpieces in hand!
Pictured is Holly, Indi, Lucinda, Eliza and Emily.
Miss Lucinda is showing us all the Beautiful Card and decorated box (which she hopefully remembered to fill with yummy goodies) that she made for Mum Kylie.

Well done girls, and I'm sure your Mums were all very proud of your efforts!

More monthly packs on order...

The May pack has been so popular that Janet has sold out within the first week and has made a mad dash to order in more product for those of you who are still wishing to purchase a pack... so hang in there, it shouldn't be too far away!
Scrapville's very talented guest designer Marg has been busy creating some wonderful projects using her monthly pack for May and all those gorgeous October Afternoon - Cherry Hill products!
Just look at Marg's precious new baby granddaughter 'Evie'!
Marg has set to work using lots of hand stitching and fussy cutting on her layout which add the perfect finishing touches!
And just look at the following two cards, so cute!
Really love the yellow tonings on this card and aren't those little bees so adorable!
The May pack has so many wonderful bits and pieces and Marg has used some of them to create three fabulous projects to inspire you! Can't wait to see what everyone does with their products!

Happy Scrapping!

KidsVille

Hello to all the little people out there that form part of Scrapville's "KidsVille".  For a little while now I have been fortunate to explore my inner child by spending time drawing at the counter with the little people, whilst Mum or Nan have a shop around.  Should those of you yearning for an escape from the echoing "Mum! Mum! Mum!....." be wondering how I survive the little people when you wander around the shop, may I remind you that this is where the creativity begins....  I am sure you all haven't heard the stories I've heard about Buzz's car and the Firemen and the dogs that just don't sit still, and why dad needed a haircut, and the little horse that will take a little boy to Pony Club one day, and the ever so busy social life these little people endure with regular coffee stops with the girls .....  I tell you I am learning a lot!!!  Heaven forbid the hired help forgets that this is routine when I am not around!!  As gratitude for the experience, the little people are rewarded with something special from the Green Box, and their beautiful creations are displayed in Scrapville on the KidsVille display board.

Today I thought I would share with you all some of the wonderful works that have been created by the little people.  Not only do I have drawings, but cards and layouts too, so thank you all little people for leaving me something special in my shop to share with everyone.

McKenzie

Zac

Ashleigh

Eliza

Mikaela

During the recent school holidays the little people ventured upon Scrapville for some inspiring crafting and creating.  There was lots of work on layouts, cards, shrinky dinks bookmarks and keyrings.  I managed to capture a snap of the happy "little" scrappers, with some of their masterpieces.

Thank you to Eliza, Indi, Amber, Lucinda, Jess, Jade, Ruby, Mathilda, Jess, Emily G, Emily, Jorja, Alexis, Georgia, Rylee, and Ashton for taking part in the KidsVille classes.  I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed having you here.

There will be more shortly as I reveal a "Special KidVille" class that was held last night, where no mums were allowed in!  I seem to have lost the photo's until next Monday............
